Anamnesis

The consultation with an osteopath lasts approximately 45 minutes. The session begins with the « anamnesis » which consists of questions about the medical history of the patient, the reason for the consultation, and their lifestyle. This gives the osteopath an overall understanding of the patient.

Clinical examination

This is when the osteopath analyzes the patient’s body by performing some tests. This clinical exam is made standing, sitting and lying down to study the articular system of movement, fascial, digestive system and Cranio-sacral system. These tests are necessary to see if the osteopath can properly perform the treatment, or redirect their patient to another health specialist in the case of a disorder that is not treated by osteopathy.

Treatment

Once the osteopath has finished with the tests, they can begin with the treatment. To do this, physical techniques are given to the patient, it is sometimes necessary for the osteopath to manipulate the patient in ways other than what the original consultation assessed, because the primary goal is to solve the origin of the problem. After the treatment, the body will react to the applied therapy and will develop its own balance; this is why time for recovery is necessary between each session.
